Our group focuses its research on two areas of the study of natural products. On the one hand, the isolation and structure determination of new substances from algae, marine invertebrates, and plant species with biomedical interest. On the other hand, part of our efforts are focused on the discovery of new synthetic methodologies, which can be applied to the preparation of biologically interesting natural substances, according to current environmental concerns.

Since He joined the research group, his work has been carried out along three main lines:
1) Isolation of new substances from natural sources: focused on different plant species, it has allowed the discovery of new metabolites with biological activity.
2) Total synthesis of complex organic molecules: mainly dedicated to the preparation of substances with interesting structural or biological properties.
3) Discovery of new methodologies in synthesis: aimed at the discovery of new methods for the activation of C-H bonds that can be applied to the total synthesis of complex molecules.

The group specializes in the following techniques:
- Structural elucidation techniques: nuclear magnetic resonance (mono- and two-dimensional), mass spectrometry and other spectroscopic techniques (IR and UV spectroscopy).
- Separation and isolation of substances: chromatographic techniques such as HPLC chromatography or gas chromatography.
- Reaction assembly: assembly of reactions in the absence of water and oxygen, use of microwave reactors, reaction monitoring by IR spectroscopy.
