The ‘Laboratoire de Chimie, Electrochimie Moléculaires et Chimie Analytique, UMR CNRS 6521 – UBO, CEMCA’ (‘Molecular Chemistry, Electrochemistry and Analytical Chemistry’ Laboratory) is a joint, CNRS and University of Brest, research laboratory. It is located in Brest at the Faculty of Science and Technology. This laboratory was created in the early eighties (1981) by the fusion into a single research unit of four teams having expertises in organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry. That is the sole research laboratory in chemistry of the University of Brest. Its research topics are oriented towards life sciences and materials. This multidisciplinary research laboratory has recognized expertises in :
- Coordination chemistry,
- Organometallic chemistry,
- Organic chemistry,
- Electrochemistry,
- Analytical chemistry.
Different research topics are developed in two main research axes :
– Inorganic Chemistry and Electrochemistry: Bioinorganic and Molecular Material (CIEl)
– Organic Chemistry, Health and Material (COSM)
They concern :
– Switchable and multifunctional materials,
– Redox properties of biomimetic metal transition molecules for activation of small molecules, catalysis and energy,
– Nitrogen chelates and amphiphilic phosphorus molecules for applications in medical imaging, vectorization, anticancer treatments or antimicrobial, as well as new materials.
The staff members of CEMCA features 26 professors, assistant-professors and CNRS-researchers, 12 engineers and technicians and about 30-40 non-permanent members (PhD and postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, Emeritus and invited visitors).
