The group has focused its research on the study of three main power groups: the elites that control municipal governments; the clergy; and the merchants. The results have been reflected in multiple publications. During its history, it has collaborated with certain companies that sought advice on historical issues. And, among his fruitful activity, we must point out the development of works of compilation and cataloguing of documentary sources, especially deeds of notary protocols.

Jesús Manuel González Beltrán, Doctor of History and Professor of Modern History at the UCA since 2016. PFPI scholar (1987-1990), Associate Professor (1990-1991), Acting Professor (1991-1993) and University Professor (1993-2016). He obtained the II Manuel Esteve Guerrero Research Award (1996). His research focuses, in the period of the Modern Age, on municipal governments, the rural world, agricultural workers and the family. Participation in various R+D projects, currently IP2 of the HAR2017-84226-C6-2-P project. In the Spanish Foundation of Modern History, he has been a member of the board of trustees (1993-95 and 2006-12), as well as Secretary of the same (1996-98).

The group is expert in research methodologies and techniques related to the treatment of historical documentary sources: search and location of documentary sources; palaeographic treatment; cataloguing and indexing; analysis and interpretation. The application of these practices allows, in collaboration with companies, the cataloguing of their archives and the search and interpretation of their past lines of action, giving the products added value in business experience.
