Short description of shared resource

The mass spectrometry platform at SGPLAT offers expertise in analysing various molecules such as metabolites, proteins, polymers, small molecules and synthetic products thanks to its state-of-the-art equipment. Analyses are performed on Bruker Autoflex III smartbeam (Maldi-TOF) and Synapt XS Waters mass spectrometers (Tof with ion mobility). The platform hosts academic and industrial projects. It is located on the UBO Science and Technology Faculty site in Brest.

For all studies, sample preparation and data acquisition protocols are developed in close collaboration with the platform manager.

Bruker Autoflex III Smartbeam

The Mass Spectrometry platform has a Bruker Autoflex III Smartbeam.
This is a MALDI TOF that can analyse various molecules by combining them with a suitable matrix in order to confirm their structures, such as:

   - Metabolites,
   - Proteins,
   - Peptides,
   - Polyphenols, polylactides, polysaccharides, etc.
   - Polymers,
   - Synthetic products.

Synapt XS Waters

The platform also features a Synapt XS Waters installed in March 2020. The ion mobility time-of-flight allows for the analysis of isobaric compounds and complex samples.

The accuracy of the masses obtained makes it a tool of choice for synthetic compounds, particularly multi-charged ones, but also for characterising compounds from tissues such as algae, aromatic plants or molecules such as drugs and medicines.
