CTS553: HEALTHCARE INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Professor at the University School of Biostatistics of the Area of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Cadiz (UCA), from where I teach subjects related to Biostatistics, Research Methodology in Health Sciences, Epidemiology and Health Demography in the Faculties of Nursing and Physiotherapy and Medicine (more than 30 years of teaching and research activity; 5 five years of evaluated teaching and two six years of research). Graduate and Doctor in Medicine and Surgery (Special Doctorate Award), Master in Public Health (University of San Juan de Puerto Rico), Diploma in Statistics applied to Health Sciences (Autonomous University of Barcelona). I have also completed a second doctorate in Mathematics (specialising in Statistics), obtaining research proficiency in this subject. I have taken specialist courses in statistical methods applied to health problems at the Andalusian School of Public Health and the National School of Health. I have worked as an epidemiologist for the Andalusian Health Service. My lines of work focus on the study of morbidity and mortality (both historical and current), health information systems, the construction of multivariate statistical indices in epidemiology, epidemiology in mental health and ageing, research in public health in general and the history and philosophy of biostatistics. From these lines, books (11), articles (more than 100) (national and international: published in Spain, Mexico, Chile, United States, England, and other European countries), subsidized research projects, prizes (national and international) and the direction of 10 doctoral theses have been born. I am a member of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology, the Association of Historical Demography, the Spanish Association for the History of Statistics and Probability, the Public Health Research Group of Cadiz (of which I was President) and the PSICOST association. I am a Full Member of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Cádiz, a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medicine and President of the Ateneo de Cádiz.
