Short description of shared resource

Digital image correlation is an optical method of non-contact measurement of motion and deformations using digital images of the tested sample. It is used for 2D or 3D measurements of the surface of the test specimen during the test. The measured coordinate fields can be used to calculate derived field quantities, such as displacements, strains, velocities, accelerations, and curvatures. Since DIC is a non-contact method, which is independent of the material under test, it can be used in a wide range of applications to investigate and characterize the deformation of solids. Some common materials tested: metals, polymers, concrete, geological samples, biological tissues, battery electrodes, explosives, etc.
