Pediatrician, in charge of the Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes unit at Puerta Del Mar University Hospital. Associate Professor in Pediatrics at Cadiz University, at the Mother and Child Health and Radiology Department. Head of the University Research group “Diabetes, Growth and Development”, and of the group “Inflammation, Metabolism and Oxidation” at INiBICA. I have directed 6 Doctoral Thesis (2 in basic research in Diabetes, and 4 in clinical research in obesity, neonatal CNS damage, diabetic retinopathy and general pediatrics). PI in national and local research proyects.

Short description of research profile

- In vivo antioxidant octivity of functional foods. Development of biochemical techniques for the in vivo analysis of the true antioxidant activity of different foods when ingested.
- Study of the role of the placenta in gestacional diabetes and/or obesity, and the oxidative, notrosative and inflammatory damage to which it is subject in these circustances.
- Mechanism of action of oxidative and Inflammatory damage induced by nutrition in childhood obesity and other chronic inflammatory conditions
