Research fellow in Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1976-1977), high school professor (1977-1983), senior lecturer at the Universidad de Cádiz from 1993 to 2000 and full professor since 2000. Secretary of the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras (Universidad de Cádiz) and infrastructure vice dean from 1995 to 2000. Head of the Spanish Department from 2001 to 2011. Visiting professor for Helsinki Universty in 2002 and 2007, and in Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2011.
