Expert in natural marine products. Her scientific interests focus on biomolecules produced by cyanobacteria. In the past, the aim of her studies was to gain in-depth knowledge of the role of cyanometabolites, including toxins, in functioning of aquatic environment. Most recent research is focused primarily on the potential application of selected cyanometabolites as pharmaceuticals (anticancer and antiviral agents). She was the initiator of setting up the Division of  Marine Biotechnology at the University of Gdańsk, and since 2014 she has been the head of this unit. ORCID: 0000-0002-6526-4045

Short description of research profile

The recent research projects of the team have been focused on pharmaceutical application of marine natural products. The group explores the metabolic diversity of cyanobacteria in search for compounds, mainly oligopeptides, of anticancer and antiviral activities. In a wide collaboration with other partners, the possible mechanism of cyanopeptides action, the alternativie methods of production as well as the behaviour under physiological conditions are studied.
