Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Cádiz (UCA) since 2008. He received his doctorate in the Industrial Engineering program at the University of Cádiz in February 2003. He belonged to the research group “Computational Intelligence Systems” PAIDI-TIC-145 from 1995 to 2011. Since January 2011, he is head of the PAIDI-TEP-024 Intelligent Modelling of Systems research group. The research group has a staff of 6 doctors (1 postdoc) and 6 doctorate candidates. He maintains a relevant trajectory leading European and National research projects and also in transfer and innovation contracts with important enterprises and corporations.

Since its creation in 2011, the group has developed around a total of 65 international journal contributions indexed in the WoS-ISI Journal Citation Report (JCR) in journals with a very remarkable impact index: Neurocomputing, Transportation Research, Industrial Management and Data Systems, etc. Likewise, the members of the group have also participated as authors, reviewers, special session organizers or program committees in international conferences, among which, IWANN, SOMET, IJCNN, SOCO, HAIS, etc., stand out being 40 indexed in ISI-Proceedings.
The research group is focused on applications of machine learning in environmental, industrial, and civil engineering (transportation and logistics) problems.
