Manuela Guerreiro is an Assistant Professor with Habilitation at the Faculty of Economics, Universidade do Algarve. She is the Coordinator of CinTurs, Program Leader of the Master’s in Marketing Management, and a member of the Board of the PhD in Tourism. She holds a Habilitation degree in Management, a PhD in Economic and Management Sciences, and an MSc in Cultural Management. She has published widely in peer-reviewed journals in Business and Management, particularly in Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality Management and Marketing. Her research interests include Marketing and Consumer Behaviour, Brand Management, Marketing and Design, Destination Branding and Image, Slow and Regenerative Tourism, and consumer well-being.

Composition of Joint Unit of Research

CinTurs is an interdisciplinary research unit in the field of Social Sciences. CinTurs ’s mission is to generate and share knowledge in the realm of Tourism and Hospitality Management, aiming to promote the sustainable development of tourist destinations across their environmental, economic, and socio-cultural dimensions and to enhance the well-being of tourists, host communities, and those working in the tourism sector. In line with the FCT Thematic Agenda for Research and Innovation in Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality (2019) and the multidisciplinary scientific profile of its members, CinTurs has developed research in three research areas: Tourism, Territories and Environment; Tourism and Hospitality Management; Tourism, Leisure and Society. Accordingly, CinTurs intends to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2020-30 Agenda, mainly at the level of 'Sustainable cities and communities' (Goal 11), Life on land (Goal 15); Climate action (Goal 13), 'Good jobs and economic growth' (Goal 8); 'Responsive consumption and production' (Goal 12); 'Partnerships for the goals' (Goal 17) and 'Good health and well-being' (Goal 3).

To achieve its mission, CinTurs directs its activity by pursuing the following strategic objectives: Consolidate interdisciplinary research and collaborative processes;  Commitment to excellence in scientific production; Strengthen international collaborations; Sturdy support for advanced training; Enhance industry partnerships, innovation and knowledge transfer; Strong involvement in relevant actions for society; and Strong ties with the region

CinTurs seeks to provide its PhD students with the best and most appropriate environment for creative and outstanding work. For this, CinTurs has a Doctoral Students Network whose main objectives are to promote the integration of students into the Centre’s activities and to stimulate the cooperation and support of PhD students during their academic journey. Through the Doctoral Students Network, the training needs of students are identified, contributing to the definition of CinTurs’ advanced training plan. PhD students have free access to specific seminars on the research areas of the Centre, to short courses, the Centre’s research software and tools, and to important research-related information (journal contents, call for papers, conferences, among others).

CinTurs has optimal conditions to host researchers, namely, well-equipped working spaces with a wireless connection at the University of Algarve (UAlg) and access to administrative support from the Centre’s staff and all the general facilities of UAlg. Centre’s facilities also include 1 meeting room for advanced courses/ scientific meetings; 2 auditoriums for seminars/conferences; computer labs, shared offices for invited researchers and an office for IT support.
