The Centre for Tourism Research, Development and Innovation (CiTUR) is a R&D unit of the national higher education polytechnic subsystem that brings together 17 institutions (universities and polytechnics), and involves more than 200 researchers. It conducts multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary applied research as well as producing and sharing scientific knowledge in tourism.
It aims to be a leader in applied research, development and innovation and to be recognised by civil society and business for its superior ability to generate and share knowledge in tourism. CiTUR Algarve is one of the six hubs of CiTUR.
Marisol B. Correia is a Coordinating Professor in the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism (ESGHT) of the University of Algarve (UAlg). She holds a PhD in Electronics and Computer Engineering, Computer Science specialty, from the University of the Algarve, a Master in Electronics and Computer Engineering from the University of Lisbon and a five-year undergraduate degree in Informatics Engineering from the University of Coimbra. She is the coordinator of CiTUR Algarve (Centre for Tourism Research, Development and Innovation), a member-collaborator of CinTurs (Research Centre for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being) and is an external research fellow of the CEG-IST (Centre for Management Studies, “Instituto Superior Técnico”, University of Lisbon). She has published scientific papers in several journals, has participated in funded projects and is a scientific reviewer for several international journals and conferences. Her current research interests include: business intelligence, information systems, electronic tourism (e-tourism), website evaluation, evolutionary computation, information and communication technologies applied to management, marketing, hospitality and tourism, among others.
e-Tourism - This includes applications for business management and tourist destinations. It also includes more specialized issues such as helping with risk management, local restaurants (e-menu) or local lodging (e-booking), the contribution of new types of economy, namely the sharing economy and its respective IT platforms.
