Monika Bak is a habilitated doctor in Economics and associate professor of the University of Gdansk. She is a Dean of the Faculty of Economics and a head of the Chair of Transport Economics. She is a social scientist with research interests in the areas of transport, tourism and economic transformation in the Central and Eastern European countries. Her area of expertise covers also assessment of policy measures towards sustainability goals with a special consideration of the economic analysis of implementation of innovative measures. She has participated in international research projects, including 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th EU Framework Programme (in most projects co-realised by the UG team she coordinated the work internally; recent projects: ORIGAMI, COMPASS), as well in projects for the European Commission (e.g. and ASSESS on Assessment of the contribution of the TEN and other transport policy measures to the mid-term implementation of the White Paper on the European Transport Policy for 2010 or IMPACT on Internalisation measures and policies for all external cost of transport) and for the European Parliament. From June 2011 until June 2012 she was an expert of High-Level expert group on the status of the EU Road Haulage Market set up by Siim Kallas, the Commissioner responsible for transport.
