The group studies learning in interaction in and outside of the school to develop existing expertise on the field. The group is interdisciplinary with an interest in learning as a social phenomenon.

The group focuses on developing existing expertise in the field of classroom research and research on learning in interaction. The group is focused on research that studies interaction and social practice using video (combined with interviews or other ethnographic methods where it is natural).

Fields of research in educational settings are multidisciplinary, with a common focus on extended classroom and varied instructional methods.

Research within the research group focuses on teaching and learning in different environments outside the classroom and the use of different teaching approaches. Furthermore, the research concerns various aspects of teaching and learning, and teaching methods, such as what the types of teaching/learning can entail, and why and how these teaching methods or activities are appropriate in certain contexts.

The research group is concerned with studying both which mechanisms increase the risk of alienation, what characterizes children and young people's own experiences with alienation, and what consequences alienation has for the individual child and youth, and for society.

The term outsiders describes a situation where individuals or groups of people stand outside what are considered central social arenas, for example where they do not participate in work life or take education, or where they lack linguistic or cultural connection to the rest of society.
