The scientific focus of the IMPS relates to basic studies in the field of neuropsychobiology and behavioral medicine on learning and memory processes and information processing in the brain, especially in the areas of pain, addiction, psychotraumatology and across the lifespan (longitudinal cohort studies). At the institute, we also work with digital survey methods such as smartphone and tablet-based apps and virtual reality and are concerned with the evaluation of large longitudinal data sets from cohort studies.

We aim to understand mechanisms of cell communication in the skin and other body barriers. We focus our attention on exosomes, a nanoscale vesicles secreted by epithelial cells and are interested in the message which these convey to the immune system. We hope that our research will lead to better therapeutic approaches for patients.

Born from the complementarity between the field of health and the communication sciences, the LaTIM ("laboratoire de traitement de l’information médicale" for laboratory of medical information processing) develops a multidisciplinary research driven by members from University of Western Brittany, IMT Atlantique, INSERM and Brest CHRU (university hospitals).
