Psychology
Institute of Medical Psychology and Medical Sociology (IMPS)
The scientific focus of the IMPS relates to basic studies in the field of neuropsychobiology and behavioral medicine on learning and memory processes and information processing in the brain, especially in the areas of pain, addiction, psychotraumatology and across the lifespan (longitudinal cohort studies). At the institute, we also work with digital survey methods such as smartphone and tablet-based apps and virtual reality and are concerned with the evaluation of large longitudinal data sets from cohort studies.
Child/Adolescent Psychology Lab (CAPLab)
Child/Adolescent Psychology Lab (CAPLab) brings together psychologists studying the psychology of children and adolescents, both from a developmental and a clinical perspective. CAPLab members are both researchers and practitioners (certified clinical psychologists, psychotherapists) basing their work on the idea of evidence-based assessment / treatment. Researches in the CAPLab focus on:
Social and Applied Psychology Research Team
- A great part of our research focuses on the phenomenon of Metacognitive Self, understood as self-awareness of biases in social perception. Our research reports to date indicate the motivating role of the metacognitive self in learning, it's importance for human development, and is rooted in cognitive processing.
Environmental Psychology and Intergroup Relations Lab
Our research focused on group processes and intergroup relations, urban life, place attachment, walkability, well-being, processes of radicalization and polarization, personality factors influencing social relations.
Economic Psychology Lab
- Our projects aim at making people understand what determines well-being and quality of life in socio-economic and cultural context. The areas of our interest include: social psychology, psychology of individual differences, economic psychology, consumer and organizational psychology.
Neuropsychology Group
Members of our division conduct a broad range of neuropsychology research that aims at investigating the brain-behavior relationship. In particular, we run projects that look into emotional and cognitive changes in individuals with neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson's disease), chronic somatic conditions (e.g., end-stage renal disease, hypertension) and stroke. Also, by using both classic psychological measures, behavioral experiments as well as neuroimaging, we investigate both cognitive and emotional changes associated with aging.
